Wondering what the differences are between the Subaru Outback vs. Jeep Cherokee? At Subaru of Mobile, we're here to show you what it'll be like driving these cars around the roads of Mobile, Daphne, and Fairhope, as well as explain some of the technologies that you'll enjoy in their cabins. To figure out which SUV is right for you, read our comparison below!

Power and Capabilities

Subaru Outback

When looking under the hoods of each vehicle, you'll find powerful standard engines. The 2.5L SUBARU BOXER® 4-cylinder engine supplies the 2019 Subaru Outback with 174 lb-ft of torque. The engine in the 2019 Jeep Cherokee, meanwhile, is a 2.4L I-4 engine that produces 171 lb-ft of torque.

This extra power gives the Subaru Outback the ability to tow up to 2,700 pounds, while the Cherokee has a standard towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. Even with more power, the 2.5L SUBARU BOXER® engine is also more efficient, getting an EPA-estimated 32 highway MPG.1The 2.4L engine in the 2019 Cherokee will give the car just 31 highway MPG, which can certainly add up over time.

What It's Like Driving the Subaru Outback vs Jeep Cherokee

In addition to looking at what propels these two SUVs, we also wanted to see how each of these cars handles the road. With the 2019 Outback, you'll get great stability, allowing you to maneuver confidently around any bend in the road. This is thanks to systems like a Traction Control System, Active Torque Vectoring, and Vehicle Dynamics Control.

The Jeep Cherokee also has systems in place to keep you in control, including All Speed Traction Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, and Electronic Stability Control. However, when it comes to more overall traction, the 2019 Subaru Outback truly shines. With both Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and X-MODE® in place, the Outback will enhance and optimize your traction even when the roads are slippery.

The Subaru Outback also features Hill Descent Control, which will help you maintain a controlled speed when moving down a steep hill. You can get your 2019 Cherokee equipped with an available 4X4 system and Hill Descent Control, but neither come standard like they do in the 2019 Outback.

Subaru Outback

With the advancements of technology, there are even more innovative ways that cars can help keep you out of harm's way. Take the 2019 Subaru Outback, for instance-this vehicle comes equipped with all the safety features that are included with EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology.

With this suite of safety features at your disposal, your car can help you stay a safe distance from the car in front of you via its Adaptive Cruise Control, and even avoid a frontal collision with Pre-collision Braking. Plus, its Lane Keep Assist technology can keep you safely within the lines on the road.

The 2019 Cherokee also has advanced safety features that can assist you, like its Full Speed Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation and Lane Departure Warning systems. Unfortunately, these systems are only available in higher trim levels of the Jeep Cherokee, while EyeSight® safety technology comes with every 2019 Outback.
